Pyeloplasty Robotic Surgery

If you are diagnosed with a urinary obstruction, surgery to remove the blockage in some instances may be recommended. This type of surgery is called pyeloplasty. In this surgery, we would remove the blockage in the urinary system and reattach the healthy part of the kidney to the healthy part of the ureter (the tubes which carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder).

Why Robotic Surgery?

Robotic surgery allows us to perform surgery through a few small incisions instead of a large incision.
Robotic surgery systems, have magnified 3D, high definition systems and special wristed instruments that bend and rotate far more than the human wrist. This enables us to operate with far more precision, vision and control.

A brief summary of the potential benefits of a Robotic Pyeloplasty, as opposed to traditional open surgery can be viewed below:

- Shorter hospital stay

- Less need for pain medicine

A brief summary of the potential benefits of a Robotic Pyeloplasty, as opposed to traditional laparoscopy surgery can be viewed below:

- Less blood loss

- Shorter total operating time

- Shorter hospital stay

- Faster return to normal activities

Robotic surgery is incredibly beneficial for performing complex surgery. We are 100% in control of the Robotic System. This translates into being able to perform smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body. Which allows us to take surgery beyond the limits of the human hand.
